Description: I was inspired by the photo shown in class of the "School of One". The photo showed several learning modalities implemented simutaneouly within a school. Inspired and excited, I immedately felt drawn to the image, as the image conveys a concept similiar to the vision West Allis - West Milwaukee has for their Alternative Learning Center. The goal of the Alternative Learning Center will be to best match the learning modality to the learner, based on learning style, learning strengths and learning needs.

Analysis: However, "we" are not doing the best job in placing students in alternative programs as we could be. Because of this, we continue to disengage and disenfranchise the alreadly reluctant and unsuccessful learner. So when given the opportunity to have some input into the intake process for placing at risk students in next years Alternative Learning Center, I immedately thought of the photo and did some research. I found a podcast by Freakconomics - "How is a bad radio station like a public school system?" Based on what I found, I drafted a document containing some ideas I believe will be beneficial in helping our at risk students be more successful in school.

Reflection: It is my understanding the document I created was well received in a meeting. However, at this time that is all I can report. I hope to play an instrumental role in creating the framework for which students attend and are placed in the Alternative Learning Center.
